Aikido is the Japanese martial art which utilizes the force of the attacker to be used against him/her.  Through combinations of body movements and a developed knowledge of joint locks and pressure points, anyone can learn how to humble even the largest opponent.  In addition, we practive how to move in such a way as to make our attacker become off balance, thereby making techniques relatively easy to apply.   Since Aikido involves either pinning or throwing an attacker, we all learn to fall safely; a benefit that extends far beyond the limits of class.  We are an affiliated dojo of Aikido Association of America.  but our style is based on the Yoshinkan style developed by the late Gozo Shioda.  This is due to the fact that the chief instructor, Mark Dorfman, trained in that system from 1980 through 1998.  By training in Aikido you will learn physical techniques, weapons katas, and an understanding of body awareness.   Aikido is beneficial on various levels; cardio vascular development, improved muscle toning, better focus and concentration, and as a very practical form of self defense.

While Aikido can be practiced by anyone, poor knees or a severe back problem would not be served well by this art as practiced in Broomall.  You are welcome to come and watch a class and ask questions.  Since you are about to embark on a journey which for many people spans many years and even a lifetime, it is vital that you are comfortable with what you see and hear.  Aikido is not the answer to everything, but for many it does help to bring better balance, awareness, and fulfillment to one's life.

We look forward to hearing from you.......
